Scotland Only Gets The Block Grant, No Other Funding

The Myth:: Scotland Only Gets The Block Grant, No Other Funding

The Truth:: We Get Barnett Consequentials Above The Block Grant

The cybernats often claim that Scotland only gets the Block Grant, and thats it.

This is patently untrue.

Barnett Consequentials are extra payments made to the devolved assemblies if there's extra spending by Westminster in England. These are over and above the Block Grants the devolved assemblies get each year.

If Westminster makes an extra payment to a government department of £10m, Scotland automatically gets 9.2% equivalent.

For example: If Education got £10bn, Scotland would get an automatic extra payment of £0.92bn (£920m).

This money is not tied to the same source as it came from. The devolved assemblies can spend their consequentials how they chose to.
